ATTENTION! VEGAN GUESTS ARE COMING - HOW TO PREPARE YOURSELVES FOR VEGAN GUESTS WITHOUT GOING NUTS:)

Many people keep asking us: “But what do you actually eat?” Others, when inviting us to their homes, feel that vegan diet is so complicated that they give up and expect us to bring the food for ourselves. Well. We do understand your worries and questions. Veganism may seem complicated at first, but it actually isn’t. Below you’ll find the list of necessary information for any non-vegan who is going to invite vegans for Christmas or any other occasion and plans to prepare vegan food;)

1. What do you actually eat? This is the question that vegans hear all the time. Many people feel sorry for us. After all poor us, we only eat plants:) But the only thing we do not eat are the ingredients that come from animals, that is:
- meat
- fish and seafood (yes, fish and seafood is meat)
- eggs
- dairy products
- honey

Easy, right?:)

2. No matter what were the reasons for a vegan to become one, when preparing vegan food you need to remember about the following:

2.1. Never use the same knife for cutting meat and vegan food without washing it first (believe us, we do not miss the taste of meat)

2.2. a soup cooked with meat or bones is not vegan (even when you remove meat out of it before serving) From our experience, it is not so obvious. And vegans or vegetarians that haven’t eaten meat for a long time, will recognize non-vegan soup easily.

2.3. When serving vegan food, do not serve it on the same plate with meat (see section 2.1.) It may seem crazy to some of you, but it’s better not to serve anything to a vegan, than to serve vegan pate with the taste of meat.

3. Don’t lie. It’s a simple and universal principle. But why is it so difficult to some people to follow it? If you lie to vegans once when it comes to food you serve, do not expect them to trust you (do not add secretly some meat to vegan food, believing it is for the poor vegan’s health) Visiting some people who lied to us once means drinking water, tea or coffee only. And still, you cannot forget about some secret ingredients that used to be added to your food (pig’s tale in a soup, vegan salad with ham, or animal fat in a cake).

4. Vegans do not eat grass :D Despite the opinion of some people, we eat much more than lettuce. If you want your vegan guests not to leave your home hungry, you need to prepare nutritious vegan food. Lettuce sprinkled with some olive oil or cooked potatoes and carrot served on a plate will definitely leave a vegan hungry. If you don’t know what to serve for the main course check out our blog (section: main course) or our Instagram account https://www.instagram.com/2vegelovers/ You will find lots of inspiration there.

5. There is also the question of tradition and understanding. If vegans are invited to someone for Christmas Eve dinner, it does not mean that they have to eat whatever is served on the table just because it is the tradition. We really are impressed with the fact that meat eaters are able to have more than a dozen different meals served at Christmas Eve table. Veganism is not just a diet. It would really mean a lot if people stopped being vicious towards vegans and vegetarians and just gave up trying to convince vegans that being vegan is against nature.

Vegans are not crazy. Despite all of the above, we are not crazy. We have excluded meat and dairy products from our diet consciously. The reasons are different and there’s no point in discussing the ethics at the Christmas table.

Eat, drink, talk and enjoy Christmas spirit. After all, vegan or not, we all share the same Christmas;)
