WHO WE ARE AND WHY WE ARE HERE

2 Vege Lovers is a duet of two sisters. Meet Kasia and Magda. Sisters by blood, vegetarian and vegan by choice.Kasia: I have been vegetarian for 24 years.Magda: I was vegetarian for 18 years with a short break for semi-vegetarianism. I’ve been vegan for a year.

Empathy was the major reason for both of us to become vegetarians. As children visiting grandparents living on a farm, we witnessed killing animals, saw dead, bleeding pigs, cows and sheep. We were always horrified when saw cutting hens heads.
Kasia, being the older one, unfortunately remembers more of such horrifying stories.
Mechanism of changes started as a  result of witnessing animals killing. We were raised in a small village and at home had only traditional Polish food.  Kasia was always made to eat meat, so when nobody saw it, she started putting the meat into (note!) her shoes...
Kasia: living with meat burgers in your shoes is neither comfortable nor fun. When I saw an episode of popular Polish TV show ANIMALS showing the slaughterhouse, I knew that I would never ever eat meat again. For some time I still ate fish but something else happened. Something that made my vegetarian side stronger - compulsive disorder. Do you remember adaptation of the novel “The Tin Drum” by Günter Grass? I remember it and will never forget this movie. The famous scene with the eels squirming out of the horse's head convinced me not to eat fish ever again. And so my vegetarianism was caused by both the empathy and compulsive disorder. 24 years ago, becoming a vegetarian in Poland was perceived by many people as irrational and stupid.
Magda: ok, almost all family members were amused at the news of me becoming a vegetarian and did not believe that I would not eat meat again. Yes, I was a fan of meat. That seems completely irrational today.
I have always loved animals. As a child I wanted to start an animal sanctuary, become a veterinary. Even though these dreams did not come true, my love and passion for animals has survived. One sunny day my (already) vegetarian sister Kasia decided to reveal my hypocrisy and said: “You say you love animals so much so why do you eat them!”
This one sentence changed my life and opened my eyes to reality. I immediately decided not to eat meat ever again. And so it happened, despite a complete shock of all family members.
For the first 18 years I took short breaks for semi-vegetarianism, but deep inside I did not feel good with it and used to sit and cry over my fish dinner, sometimes even got sick. In high school I watched a movie about slaughterhouse and then, as a protest against killing animals, I threw away my favorite army shoes.
In 2013 I started reading about veganism, which before I believed was an exaggeration. And so, a couple of articles and movies showing the whole truth about cow breeding for dairy industry was enough... My evolution started and at the beginning of 2014 I started excluding eggs and dairy products from my diet.
Even though we’ve been vegetarians for many years, only recently we started trying out something more than classic soya burgers and our beloved potatoes.
Vege does not always mean healthy and fit food... but it can:)
And this is what we want to present - healthy and nutritious vegetarian and vegan food.
This blog will present our recipes, but also stories about being vegetarian/vegan in the city. What problems we encounter in everyday life? Where can we eat out and what?
You will read about lifestyle, sports and philosophy behind our diet.

Be ready!
